Obituary for Boyd Murphy, Jr.

Mr. Boyd Murphy, Jr was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, SC.

Born in Bishopville, SC, he was a son of the late Boyd Murphy, Sr. and Olivia Getter Murphy.

Mr. Murphy attended Dennis High School. At an early age, he joined St. John A.M.E. Church, where he was a member for many years. Following in the path of God's servitude, he decided to join the United States Army at the age of 19. He served the military for over 20 years. Making the decision to join his Brothers in Arms, gave him the opportunity to travel abroad. His career consisted of two hardship tours of Vietnam, one tour in Texas, and two tours in Germany.. After his many years of service, he retired and decided to make Fayetteville, NC his home. Boyd continued his education at Fayetteville Technical Community College. There, he received numerous certificates and went on to start his own business, "Murphy's Home Improvement". As years passed, he felt the need to get back to his roots and returned home to Bishopville.

Boyd Murphy, Jr. is survived by his, wife Vanessa Charles Murphy; six children, Corey Murphy, Reginald Murphy, and LaShawnda (William) Torrey, of Fayetteville, NC; Jasmine Hines of Raeford, NC; and Malcolm Whittington and Rayquan Jones of Bishopville, SC; eleven siblings, Charles (Flossie) Murphy and Hazel Murphy of Bishopville; Lillie (Robert) Spann of Fairfax, SC; Jannie (Gussie) Hickman of Monroe, NC; Shirley Washington, Olivia (John) Dixon, Lucile Jennings, and Dorothy Lovely of New Jersey; Carolyn (Ruddy) Solomon of Columbia, SC; Denise (John) Murphy, Ernestine Murphy of Bishopville, SC; countless grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Murphy, Sr. and Olivia Murphy; one sister, Rosa Murphy; and one brother, Andrew Murphy.
