Obituary for Edward Thomas

Mr. Edward Thomas, Sr was the son of the late Annie Bell Thomas Smith and the late Hazel Chambers and a special father, the late Harmon Smith, Sr. Edward was born on June 24, 1943 in Bishopville, SC. He attended the public schools in Lee County. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he continued to work for the Lord.

Kooter, as he was often called, was a loving father to his only daughter, Vernika (Johnny) Wilson, whom he loved and cherished dearly. He has joined his only son, Edward Thomas, Jr, up in heaven.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Louise Slater Thomas; his daughter, Vernika (Johnny) Wilson of Charlotte, NC; a bonus daughter, Verneska Thomas of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Monet Wiley, Edward Thomas, Kemarian Wells and Kelis Slater of Charlotte, NC: two great grandchildren, Carren Martin, Marjani Johnson, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Mary Thomas and Rosanna Smith of Brooklyn, NY; and Annie Smith of Bishopville, SC; two brothers, Harmon Smith, Jr. of Bishopville, SC and Leon (Frances) Smith of Greenville, SC; two aunts, Dorothy Bowers of Charlotte, NC and Julia Carter of Brooklyn, NY; one son-in-law, Johnny Lee Wilson of Bishopville, SC; six sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; a special niece, Britney L. Rogers of Bishopville, SC and a special grandniece, Quinnesha Gregg of Bishopville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Thomas, Jr and two sisters, Lillie Bell Gregg and Beulah Hannah.

The management and staff of Square Deal Funeral Home thank the Thomas family for entrusting us with the final rites of Brother Edward Thomas, Sr.
