Obituary for Joseph "Rev" Simon, Sr.

Joseph "Rev" Simon, Sr., was born February 13, 1927 to the late Jesse "Moot" Simon and Mary York Simon in Bishopville, SC He transitioned from his earthly home on May 10, 2019 at McCoy Memorial Center in Bishopville, surrounded by his family.

He was educated in the Lee County Public School System.

At an early age, he became an active member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he served alongside his family.

As a young man, he was employed at Reeves Brother's where he worked for many years. While working at Reeves Brother's, he gained the love and respect of many.

Upon retiring from Reeves Brother's, he worked briefly at Burlington and in the family business, Square Deal Funeral Home. He also tried his hands in construction work. His presence will be greatly missed.

Known to some as Daddy, Rev, Uncle Rev, Sporty or the "Man", he became the Patriarch of the Simon family. Whenever there was a family reunion, he was sure to receive awards for being the oldest, having the most children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren there.

He loved and was so very proud of his family; always complimenting them and telling them "You sure look good"! He made you feel good even if you didn't feel good at that time. He was always making each person feel special with that million dollar smile and simple words "Hey Babe". He was so loved and respected by many.

Aside from his loving parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Simon; sons, Joseph B. Simon, James V Simon, and Rodney B. Simon; and seven sisters and two brothers.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, daughters, Delores (Skeet) Simon, Corinthia (James) Casey, Deborah Reid, Julia (Jack) Young and Vivian C,. (Michael) Simon; grandchildren, Marquetta, Sheritta, Lamont, Myesha, Derrick, Victor Lequan, Lorraine, Jessica, Josh, Danielle, Cornelius, Chadwick, Crystal, and Chauncey; precious great-grands and great-great-grands; sisters, Carrie Simon Dizzley and Shirley Simon Wilson; brother, Roland Simon; many nieces and nephews that he loved and adored; and other cousins, relatives and friends.

On behalf of the Simon family, we thank each of you for the outpouring of love and support exhibited during the illness and passing of our loved one. May God bless each of you!
