Obituary for Evelyn Rouse (Solomon)

Evelyn Solomon Rouse was born December 4, 1941 and departed this life on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was the daughter of devoted parents, the late Eleazer Solomon, Sr. and Annie Bell Solomon. She was the fourth child of fourteen children.

Evelyn loved the Lord. She devoted much of her time to mission work, singing on the choir, and writing and reading stories, scriptures, skits, prayers and poems. She loved people and enjoyed serving humanity. At an early age, Evelyn was affiliated with the Church of God and later with the AME Church. She also attended a nondenominational church of North Carolina for years, where she also rendered service to the Lord, proclaiming his marvelous love, goodness, hope, faithfulness, mercy, truth, forgiveness, and grace.

Evelyn Rouse was educated at Fleming Elementary School in Lynchburg, South Carolina and Mount Pleasant High School in Elliott, South Carolina. Evelyn went on to further her education and graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. From there, she went on to South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina where she received her Master of Science in Education. She received further training at Francis Marion College of Florence, South Carolina and South Carolina State College Extention in Sumter, South Carolina. Evelyn also attended the Victory Christian Center, More Than a Conqueror College in Charlotte, North Carolina where she received a certificate in Bible Training.

Evelyn's love for education was evident. She was a lifelong learner and a teacher. She taught at Fleming Elementary School, Lower Lee Elementary School, as well as Bishopville Primary School. In 1988, Evelyn was named Teacher of the Year by her colleagues at Lower Lee Primary School in St. Charles.

Evelyn was married to Pastor Johnnie L. Rouse. They met in the 10th grade and were married fifty-four years.Through this union, she had three children, LaShenda, Tyvon, and Shervonda.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Pastor Johnnie L. Rouse; children, LeShenda Rouse of Bishopville, SC, Tyvon Rouse of Darlington, SC and Shervonda Rouse of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Viney Scott (Charlie) of Conyers, GA, Virginia Gilmore (Floyd) of Bowie, MD, Isabella Solomon Samuel of Mauldin, SC, Rosa Holt (Frankie) of Columbia, SC and Genova Clemons (Michael) of Camp Springs, MD; brothers, Thomas Solomon, Sr. (Joyce) of Millsboro, DE, Perley Solomon, Sr. (Lila) of Bronx, NY, Ruddy Solomon, Sr. (Carolyn) of Columbia, SC, Isaiah Solomon (Gwendolyn) of Mitchellville, MD, and Marcell Solomon of Bowie, MD; a host of aunts, uncles , nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Matthew Solomon, Eleazer Solomon, Jr, and Chester Solomon.
