Obituary for Ruby Nell Johnson (Davis)

"An angel was called home to her final resting place."

Ruby "Nell" Davis Johnson, affectionately known as "Nell", wife of the late John Wesley Johnson of Bishopville, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home.

Nell was the fourth child out of five children born to the late Dan Davis and Ada Hickman Davis on July 25, 1937.

As a child, she was reared in Barnettsville Baptist Church. When she came to know the Lord, she was baptized and served on various ministries. She was the Church Clerk for many years as well as a faithful member of the Barnettsville Baptist Gospel Choir and YWA for many years. Later in life she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church of Sumter, South Carolina where she was a faithful member and served on the Pastor's Support Ministry for many years.

Nell attended Dennis High School and and Benedict College. During her earlier years, she was a Nurse's Assistant for Dr. Leroy Dennis for many years. She also worked a number of years for the Lee County Disability Board. She later began a lengthy career as a Teacher's Assistant for the Lee County School District for 34 years until she retired in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Johnson; her parents, Dan and Ada Davis, Jr.; and two sisters, Ida Mae March and Rosa Lee Weaver.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving son, David (Cynthia) Davis and a daughter, Jennifer Stuckey, both of Bishopville, SC: two grandsons, who loved her dearly, Derrick Jerome Davis, of Sumter, SC and David Montel Davis of Bishopville, SC; three great-grand children, Jaylen, Zyon and Syair; one brother, William (Maec) of Columbia, SC; one niece, Robin Weaver of Manhattan, NY; and a host of other relatives and friends.

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
