Obituary for Walter Baker, Sr.

"My sun has set and it's time for my body to rest. Why cry for a soul set free?"

An angel of God came from heaven to Carolina Pines in Hartsville, South Carolina in the afternoon of December 3, 2019, and gently closed the weary eyes of Mr. Walter Baker, Sr.

Walter Baker, Sr., was born on January 11, 1946 in Lee County, South Carolina to the late Burrell, Sr. and Elvira Dixon Baker.

He attended the Lee County public schools.

Walter, Sr. was joined in holy matrimony to the late Viola Stukes Baker, and to their union, four children were born.

During Walter, Sr's years as a youth , he joined Mechanicsville United Methodist Church.

Walter, Sr. worked for the McCutchen family but was later employed in the Conway area of South Carolina until his unfortunate accident.

After the accident, his eldest sister, Annette Baker became his caregiver for 36 years. After her passing, his sisters, Elizabeth and Betty Ann, along with his niece, Daisy McQuillar became his caregivers until he transitioned from this earth.

Walter, Sr. leaves to cherish his precious memories: his Children, Walter (Chanti) Baker, Jr., Michael (Sarah) Baker, Joanne Baker, all of Bishopville, SC; Cindy (Marcus) Baker and Patricia (Kayvester) Baker of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth (Walter, Sr.) Charles and Betty Ann (John, Sr.) Frierson, both of Bishopville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Janie Baker and Thelma Baker; one aunt, Marie Dixon; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Walter, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Stukes Baker; his parents, Burrell, Sr. and Elvira Dixon Baker; seven siblings, Annette Baker, Alberta (Roosevelt) McQuillar, Elouise Abraham, William Baker, Burrell Baker, Jr., Marvin (Annie Bell) Baker and James Baker.
