The Life and Legacy of Ms. Erie Jean "Barbara" Marshall
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in the sight, O' Lord, my strength and my redeemer" - Psalm 19:14
Erie Jean "Barbara" Marshall was born on July 10, 1953. She was the sixth of eleven children born to the late Rev. Joseph "Doc" and Mary Ann Reese Marshall, and was reared by the late Cloves and Rebecca "Beck Ma" Reese Rembert. She was affectionately cal "Ceil" and "Red Top" by her family.
Erie "Barbara" Jean received her education from Dennis High School in Bishopville, South Carolina. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and became an active member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. She served diligently as a member of the adult choir, trustee ministry, missionary ministry, director of the children's Choir, the church clerk, the church treasurer, and kitchen committee.
Erie was well known, respected and loved by her community and all who knew her. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children. She enjoyed watching Westerns, The Sci Fi and History Channels. She thoroughly enjoyed oldies and gospel music, and sitting on her front porch.
Erie was preceded in death by six brothers: Audrey, Joseph, Jr., Archie, Henry, and Maxie Marshall, Jose're Greene, and Sammie Franklin.
She lived a full and bountiful life. The memories, love and her legacy will be cherished and remembered through her five daughters: Denerion (Greg) Jennings, Otees Marshall, and Erie Brown of Sumter, South Carolina; Rebessa Marshall of Bishopville, South Carolina; Matees (Chris) McIntyre of Lancaster, South Carolina; and one son, Laquan Marshall; a niece whom she adored and helped raised as her own, Audrey "Bunny" King of Bishopville, South Carolina; three sisters, Mae-Queen Marshall, Sylvia Marshall, and Gayle (Gene) Kennedy; three brothers, Willie (Minnie) Marshall, Huron (Monica) Marshall, and Jeffrey Huggins; four sisters-in- law, Louise Marshall, Jeanette Marshall, Sue Marshall, Susan B. Marshall, and Renee Chandler; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
She also leaves to cherish her memories three lifelong friends who loved her dearly; Patricia Moses, Brent Wiley, Elsie Jennings and Eddie Wesley.
