Delores "Lois" Simon

Delores Elaine Simon, affectionately known as "Lois" was born on September 7, 1949, in Bishopville, South Carolina. She was the first child born to the late Joseph R. Simon and the late Vivian Frederick Simon. She transitioned from her earthly journey on April 30, 2020.

Delores joined New Zion AME Church in Bishopville, SC at a very early age. She received her formal education in the public schools of Lee County. She was a proud 1968 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Elliott, SC. After graduation, she relocated to Newark, New Jersey where she met her life partner of 44 years, Gobie "Skeet" Thaggard. She became employed as manager and operator of South Orange Ave Dry Cleaners. She was employed with University Medicine and Dentistry Hospital in Newark, New Jersey for 25 years until the time of her passing.

Delores was a beautiful, caring, thoughtful, giving, sophisticated, proud woman, known for making sure that everyone was okay. She encouraged and supported everyone who crossed paths with her. Her family was her priority and greatest pride and joy. During her life, she loved nothing more than having gatherings with family, often quietly watching from the side. She was favored by God with a gift of compassion.

In addition to her parents, Delores was preceded in death by her grandmother, Emma S. Bradley; and four brothers, Joseph (Tat), James, Rodney (Ronnie) and Derrick L. Simon.

Delores leaves to cherish her memories are; her two daughters, Marquetta L. Simon of Jersey City, New Jersey and Sherritta Crawford (Harold) of Greensboro, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Brianni, Amber, Dejahna, Asa, Brielle, Amadi and Bryce; five great-grandchildren whom she adored, Kai, Shuhaila, Zuri, York and Shawne; four sisters, Corinthia Casey (James), Deborah Reid, both of New Jersey, Julia Young (Jack) Vivian Simon (Mike) of Bishopville, South Carolina. Also left to cherish her memories are: Aunt Carrie S. Dizzley and Uncle Roland Simon of Bishopville, South Carolina.

Delores enjoyed trips home to South Carolina to see her family. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces; Myesha, Lorraine, Crystal, Jessica and Danielle; and nephews, Rico, Chadwick, Neil, Quan, Derrick, Joshua and Chauncey.
