Obituary for Nehemiah Tention, Sr.

MR. NEHEMIAH TENTION, Sr. was the son of the late Maggie Tention. He was born in Lee County on April 10, 1930. He was married to the late Elouise Johnson Tention.

He was educated in the public schools of Lee County. Mr. Tention was an extremely hard and dedicated worker who worked various jobs that included the following: Truck Driver for LM Chewning Farms, Mr.Harry B. Boykin, Sloan Construction Company, Bishopville Highway Department, and the job he loved the most, Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville, South Carolina, where he was the "KING OF THE HEARSE."

He was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church where he served on several ministries. He was the Senior Deacon for many years, a member of the Senior Choir and the Male Chorus. He also sung for many years with the Friendly Five and the Gospel Creations.

He was a faithful servant of God that realized that whatever he did, he did it from the heart and as something done for the Lord and not for people. He worked hard and diligently serving Christ until he was called home to be with Lord in such a peaceful state on May 30, 2020.

Mr. Nehemiah Tention, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories; eight children, Rosa (Ronald) Shelton, Elijah (Elouise) Tention, Nehemiah, Jr. (Lisa) Tention, Betty (Cleveland) Boykin, Maggie Williams, Mary Alice (Charles) Thomas, Christopher Leon Tention, all of Bishopville, South Carolina and Sandra T. Brown of Marion, South Carolina; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Boone and Annie Mae Frierson; two brothers-in-law, Edward Johnson, Sr. and Elijah Johnson of Bishopville, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Tention, Lucille Boone, and Nell Gerald.

The Management and Staff of Square Deal Funeral Home sincerely thank the Tention family for entrusting us with the final rites of Deacon Nehemiah Tention, Sr. Mr. Tention was a trusted, dedicated and committed staff member of Square Deal Funeral Home, He will surely be missed.
