Obituary for Jessie M Nickens

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep the in all thy ways. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and Honour him."

Jessie Mae Nickens was born on August 30, 1931 in Bishopville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James Nickens and Laura Stephens Nickens.

Jessie was educated in the Lee County Public School Systems and graduated from Dennis High School in the Class of 1950.

Jessie was also a proud graduate of South Carolina State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1954. She also went on to earn her master's degree in Education.

She was a faithful and dedicated school teacher. She taught school in the Lee County Public School System for 32 years where she touched the lives of many. Jessie made a positive impact on countless numbers of children.

Jessie loved here children, loved ones, church family and friends. Jessie was also a faithful and dedicated member of St. john AME Church in Bishopville, SC, where she served as the church secretary. Jessie was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society, Steward and Stewardess Board, and head of Senior Usher Board. She also organized and conducted tutoring classes for children on Saturday mornings.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, and her two sisters, Linda "Lee Shug" Nickens and Lueida Williams.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children, LaTarsha Jarica Nickens, and Jamie Saron Nickens both of Columbia, Sc; two grandchildren, Saron Nickens (Sumter, Sc) and Jamel Nickens (Columbia, SC); three special grandchildren, Tyson & Tylor Burroughs (Columbia, SC) and A'brielle Simone thomas (Atlanta, GA); two special god-children, Deborah S. Haggins (Bishopville, Sc) and Valerie Bradley-Thomas (Altanta, GA), and a host of cousins, god-children, relatives, and friends.
