Dorothy M. York, aged 80, died peacefully on February 2, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Dorothy was born March 9, 1940, in Bishopville, SC, daughter of the late Toney "Doc" York and Olean Wilson York.
Dorothy had a great love for everything pertaining to the Lord. At an early age she joined Mt. Lisbon Presbyterian Church where she was active in many capacities. She later moved her church affiliation to Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Senior Choir and Usher Board for many years.
She lived her entire life in the St. Mark community in Bishopville, SC caring for her parents and brothers. Over the years Dorothy worked in various jobs. However, late in life she got close to realizing her life-long dream of becoming a nurse when she began a career as an In-Home Healthcare Aide.
She leaves to forever cherish her memory, daughter Cheryl York Hudson (Otis); grandsons - JaJuan Hudson (Payge), and Nicholas Hudson; Great Granddaughter Cali Hudson, all of Houston, TX. Niece Betty Stewart, New Haven, MI; and Nephew David York (Elizabeth), Bishopville, SC, both of whom she helped raised. Sister, Jannie McCants, New Haven, MI, twin sister Flossie Watts, Charlotte, NC; Sister-in-Law Betty York, Bishopville, SC She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss here.
Dorothy is preceded in death by sisters Queenie Cooper, Annie Mack and Edith Bradley. Brothers Prince, John and Thomas York.
